Charles Good-Man

Partner + Architect

1981

Charles started his career with Haugaard Elrod Architecture & Planning as a draftsman and learned the profession of assembling construction documentation under the direct guidance of James Elrod, Charles worked on large shopping centers and commercial projects, Charles quickly rose to the level of a senior draftsman.

 

1983

Charles was requited away from Haugaard Elrod by Nick Panchev, Principal of APEC Associates to start as a Job Captain working on DOD (Department of Defence) projects throughout California. Under the guidance of Mr. Panchev, Charles advanced to the level of Project Manager to Associate and eventually a partner within the firm. While at APEC Charles met James Free and the two decided to go on their own.

1986

Charles and James Free started the Architectural Firm Good-Man | Free and Associates, Inc. Where they continued to provide architectural services for the DOD, completing many open-ended contracts. Charles's passion for designing Custom Residential moved the company in that direction, which was very successful as they completed dozens of homes in the Hollywood Hills, Broad Beach Road-Malibu, Beverly Hills, Hidden Hills, to name a few. Their list of Clients was very successful in the movie industry. The firm also dipped its foot in the Industrial sector with the Starting of a Solid Waste Division, completing numerous Waste Recycling Centers throughout California.

1998

After many successful years of working together, Charles and James' decided to look for different styles of Architecture, and they agreed to part ways, Charles passion for larger scaled industrial building drove him to join the firm of RKZ, Inc. which specialized in medium and Large Scale Tilt-up Buildings where Charles learned intricacies of the Concrete Tilt-up Construction Industry and while at RKZ Charles produced millions of square feet of Tilt-up buildings, one of the projects that Charles worked on was the Steris Gamma Irradiation Facility, Ontario CA

1999

Charles was recruited from RKZ to help grow the firm of Bruce Gillings Architects. Charles started as a Senior Project Manager, He and Bruce grew the firm and its reputation to the point that Charles became an equal partner and created a new firm called Gillings + Good-Man Architects, Inc. (GGM). While at GGM Charles & Bruce produced one of the largest Tilt-Up building Footprints for that time, 1.7 Million SF IKEA Distribution Facility, Tejon-CA, other notable projects; Preferred Freezers Cold Storage Prototype, Pafco Food Processing & Cold Storage, Vernon-CA, Apfells Coffee Production, and Warehouse, Sante Fe Springs-CA. ATI Architects later acquired GGM Architects in 2008

2006

As all good things come to an end, and so did the partnership of GGM. Charles decided to take his strong 3d BIM Skills to a new opportunity as the Director of Architecture for a firm that specialized in the Large Scale Senior Housing (CCRC, AL/IL & Memory Care) market. Charles also oversaw the conversion process from 2D to 3D BIM transformation. He Understood the cultural change that must occur in this change process and implemented corrective techniques for the office personnel in the translation from 2D to 3D. He also analyzed and helped select the change in the 3d software and its implementation for the office and created and managed the implementation of new training practices and manuals. A few projects Charles directed were; Raincross Senior Housing, Riverside-CA, Pahrump Senior Housing, Pahrump-CA, Ontario Senior Housing, Ontario-CA.

2010

In 2009 Charles was still working at Irwin Partners, where he and the Principals decided to use the Companies expert BIM skills to help General Contractors and expand the project base, and from that vision came "integrated process Design Associates, Inc."  (IPDA) was born... 

 

In 2010 the industry went through a downturn, and Charles was one of those many that were impacted and released from Irwin Partners Architects. Still, he retained the ownership of IPDA. During this period, Charles is not one to give up he and decided to use his extensive BIM abilities and found the Construction Industry needed a Process to lower costs and liability on their very tight budgets. They discovered that the IPDA BIM Process to be a great asset to the industry. IPDA-global provided spatial BIM Modeling Services to the Construction Community for Clash Coordination and Fabrication of small to substantial projects such as; Wyoming Capital Renovation, Unversity of Wyoming Engineering, and Education, Geological Buildings, Unversity of Riverside Campus Dorms.

2019

The change was here, Ei Design hired Charles as a Senior Project Manager. Charles worked on several high-profile projects with very short timelines and limited budgets with Lee Budd, Chief Operating Officer. One of the projects is a 40,000 SF two-story high-end luxe event center located in Irvine-CA, and another was a 35,000 SF very specialized sporting event facility located in Huntington Beach-CA. During his time at Ei Design Charles worked on several other projects including; 10-acre Cannabis grow & production facility located in central California, numerous Cannabis Retail Stores, Fluff and Fold addition for Sparkleen - Indio-CA, Hope Church remodel - Tustin-CA, F-35 Pum Room - Parker Hannifin - Irvine, CA, Wastewater Treatment Addition - Valence Surface Technologies - Lynwood-CA, and numerous others... BUT the story moves again yet to another new chapter...

2020
